MUSEUM MISSION AND INFORMATION
The Discover Museum in the West Fargo, Fargo, Moorhead community is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit corporation.
Mission:
Discover Museum is organized to educate and inspire its audience with an understanding and appreciation for the scientific values of natural history specimens and to stimulate the imagination of a diverse audience, by providing thought-provoking interactions with vertebrate and invertebrate specimens, scientific concepts, and real hands-on experiences creating an appreciation of natural science studies. The goal is to make sure that this museum is educational and that it can be a repository for specimens that can be made available for research and study.
In order to do these things, we need to make everything in the museum the property of the museum. Currently, Dinosaurs and More has acquired and incurred all of the expenses for the museum. It is now time for the expenses to be turned over to the museum so that the museum will stand alone with the help of the community.
Your help will insure the success of the museum and all of its contents. Along the way you can decide how you would like to support the Discover Museum by donations, memberships, promotional event giving, sponsoring an exhibit, adopting a museum item, or helping to get future displays, specimens, or traveling exhibits for the museum.
General Museum Needs:
Employees: 1 Full time person and 1 or 2 part time people are needed to maintain the museum. Duties include: exhibit maintenance and updates, personal relations, general cleaning, taking care of admissions and memberships, acquiring materials for the museum, development of programs for the public with specific emphasis on education for young people, research traveling exhibits and other attractions to compliment the museum, and anything else pertinent to the museum.
Monthly expenses: rent, insurance, utilities, advertising, etc.
Material expenses:
includes material for bone preparation, stabilizing compounds for the bones,
molding and casting materials for use to replicate certain bones or skeletons,
updating exhibits, etc.
Renovations: labor, drywall, paint, wood,
stain, basic building supplies, etc.
Custom Display Cases: 14 display cases were built for the museum. The cost was almost $40,000 for custom built cases but the savings from buying new cases (nearly a $50,000 savings) was worth it.
Name recognition will be placed with each exhibit for each sponsor. Call if you would like a tour or more information. Thank you.
